The Ss. Peter & Paul boys and girls seventh grade basketball teams dropped two games on the road Tuesday night while losing to Columbia Catholic by the scores of 28-19 and 21-14, respectively.
The Lady Warriors, dropping to 3-3 on the season, trailed Columbia Catholic 7-2 at the half and 13-8 after three quarters of play. Columbia Catholic also held a 8-6 scoring edge in the final period.
Ss. Peter & Paul coach Carol Griffin said this was a hard loss for the girls.
“We were able to play with them, considering we were playing eighth graders,” Griffin said.  “The girls played hard and fought back against an aggressive team.  We had too many turnovers last night with wanting to pass the ball across the defense and traveling.  This I believe has to do with having to play against girls who are more experienced and we never really settled down to play our game.  When everyone works together and play their positions things begin to click, we will continue to teach and show them how to recognize this and to play towards their strengths. It will be nice to get the girls back in the gym to work on some of the fundamentals again.”
Liz Sullivan had the game-high for Columbia Catholic with nine points.
For Ss. Peter & Paul, Hannah Gross tossed in six points while grabbing eight rebounds and one steal. Mackenzie Lutz added five points, eight rebounds and five steals while Megan Kammerich had two points, Emily Imhoff with one point, three steals and one rebound and Kaitlyn Doza with two steals and one rebound.
For the Ss. Peter & Paul boys, they trailed Columbia Catholic 17-10 at the half and 22-12 after three quarters of play before rallying back with a 7-6 advantage in the final period.
Samuel Wiser had 12 points and six rebounds in the game for Ss. Peter & Paul. Ben Horst finished the game with four points and one rebound while Kyle Chrisman added three points and two rebounds and Ben Eichelberger with seven rebounds.
For Columbia Catholic, Josh Hughes had 10 points while David Welch chipped in seven points.
