Lady Warriors beat Otterville 32-19; boys prevail 47-41
The Ss. Peter & Paul boys and girls eighth grade basketball teams went on the road Friday night for only the second time this season and came away with two victories by beating the Otterville Eagles by the scores of 47-41 and 32-19, respectively.
The Lady Warriors, improving to 5-1 on the season, outscored Otterville in three out of the four quarters of play and led 11-4 after one, 16-8 at the half and 22-15 after three quarters of play. Meanwhile, in the final period, Ss. Peter & Paul outscored the Lady Eagles 10-4 to win the game by 13.
Ss. Peter & Paul coach Danny Fuemmeler said the girls fought very hard in an extremely physical game. “There were 37 team fouls and the girls were struggling to find a rhythm,” Fuemmeler said. “It wasn’t the prettiest game but we found a way to win. We still have work to do defensively but we are improving.”
Hannah Fuemmeler finished the game with a double-double for Ss. Peter & Paul with 12 points and 16 rebounds along with three steals and one assist.
Cassie Armentrout finished the game with eight points and two assists while Amber Oerly added four points and four rebounds, Addy Quinlan with three points, three rebounds, three assists and one steal, Ellie Monk with two points and one rebound, Lindsey Harris also with two points, Kiley Barnes with one point, four rebounds and three assists and Ella Reisinger with two rebounds, one steal and one assist.
For the Ss. Peter & Paul boys, they trailed Otterville 11-8 after one and 22-20 at the half before rallying back with a 27-19 advantage in the final-two periods for the victory.
Ss. Peter & Paul coach Kevin Lang said Zach Weber did an excellent job of disrupting the rhythm of their point guard after his hot start in the first quarter. “Riley and Nick were solid as usual and Ryan Witting had a good game for us down low,” Lang said. “Otterville has some good players and we were happy to get the win.”
Riley Lang had the game-high for Ss. Peter & Paul with 25 points along with five rebounds, five assists and one steal.
Ryan Witting also scored in double digits with 13 points and five rebounds while Nick Zeitlow chipped in six points, 10 rebounds, five assist and one steal, Ryan Sprigg with two points, two assists and one rebound, Zach Weber with one point, one rebound and one steal and Makiah Waibel with one rebound and one steal.
