The New Franklin girls junior high basketball team outscored Brunswick 12-0 in the first quarter and never looked back, beating the Lady Wildcats last night in CAC action at New Franklin by a score of 35-14.
The Lady Bulldogs, improving to 7-2 on the season, led Brunswick 22-7 at the half and then outscored the Wildcats 13-7 in the second half for the victory.
New Franklin coach Chris McGowan said this was a good game for the girls. “We were able to give a lot of girls some playing time and it was nice to see them all contribute,” McGowan said. “We had a number of different players score which was also a positive sign for us. We hope to finish the year strong.”
Kacie White paced all scorers in the game for New Franklin with 10 points. Jordan Winningham had six, Jasmine Himmelberg five, Molly Lyons four and Katie Dobson, Lacey Senevey, Chloe Dobson, Teagan Birdno and Cierra Maupin each with two.
For Brunswick, Jordan Hawkins tossed in eight points.
As for the New Franklin boys, they fell to Brunswick by a score of 24-10.
The Bulldogs, dropping to 5-4 on the season, trailed Brunswick 7-1 after one, 13-4 at the half and 40-4 after three quarters of play. Meanwhile, in the final period, New Franklin’s A-team outscored the Wildcats 6-4.
New Franklin coach Jim Schlotzhauer said the boys looked offensively challenged against Brunswick. “We shot very poorly and could not score enough to win the game,” Schlotzhauer said.
Anthony McCory led all scorers for Brunswick with 11 points.
For New Franklin, Kenny Boggs had four, Dalton Friedrich and Bailey Lyons two points each and Austin Jones and Brendan Hundley with one point apiece.
