Austin Jones scored a game-high 13 points, leading the New Franklin boys eighth grade basketball team past Bunceton 31-15 in the opening round of the Prairie Home Tournament last night.
Brendan Hundley chipped in five points for the Bulldogs, who led 12-9 at the half, while Philip Udinyine added four, Sid Hendrix three and Kale Harris, Caleb Philips and Josh Udinyine each with two.
For Bunceton, Bryan Terrell had 11 points and seven rebounds while Rylee Knapheide added four points and two assists.
As for the New Franklin girls, they defeated Bunceton 48-7.
Jasmine Himmelberg tossed in 21 points for the Lady Bulldogs, who led 13-6 at the half, while Teagan Birdno added 15 and Chloe Dobson, Jordan Schler and Lacey Senevey each with four.
For Bunceton, Aubrey Scott, Rachel Lenz and Emily Clevenger each had two while Courtanie Johnson added one.
In other games last night, Trudy Capps had 14 and Eleanor Oehrke 10 as the Prairie Home girls defeated Otterville 46-28.
Rachel Distler had the game-high for Prairie Home with 22 while Shianne Rhorer added 18 and Kristen Peterson with six.
Prairie Home also led Otterville 24-14 at the half.
As for the Prairie Home boys, they fell to Otterville 36-30.
Franklin Oswald paced all scorers for the Eagles, who led 15-12 at the half. For Prairie Home, Ross Kendrick had 17, Wyatt Borghards 11 and Creed Flood with two.
