Pirates to host Hannibal tonight at 5 p.m.
The Fulton Hornets soccer team jumped out to a 6-0 halftime lead against Boonville and never looked back for a 7-2 victory last night in Fulton.
The Hornets, who swept the season series against Boonville, scored goals at the 2, 9, 10, 17, 20 and 37 minute mark to lead by a score of 6-0 at the break. Meanwhile, in the second half, Fulton added another goal at the 45 minute mark to make it 7-0.
Of course the Pirates didn't go down without a fight. After a goal at the 62 minute mark on an assist from Nolan Shikles to Tyler Drew, Boonville came back with its second goal on a penalty kick at the 80 minute mark to end the scoring.
While the loss dropped Boonville to 3-12 overall and 0-7 in the NCMC, head coach Tim Brown said his team is having a hard time keeping up with the more established programs and or bigger schools. "Fulton came out on fire and we were fresh out of water," Brown said.
Fulton finished the match with 27 shots on goal and 42 shot attempts compared to eight shots on goal by Boonville and 11 shot attempts.
Boonville goalie Nathan Green also had 20 saves in the match.
In the JV match, Fulton led Boonville 4-0 at the half with goals at the 2, 11, 31 and 32 minute mark and then added five more goals in the second half at the 37, 39, 48, 58 and 62 minute mark for a 9-0 victory.
Brown said the JV Pirates butted up against a good, young team in the JV Hornets. "Realistically, the Fulton JV squad has about a dozen players who could score, but the Boonville JV squad has yet to find one," Brown said.
The Hornets also had 17 shots on goal and 24 shot attempts while Boonville had only five shots on goal and six shot attempts.
Junior goalie Brenden Twenter also had eight saves in the match for the Pirates, who dropped to 1-7-2 overall.
