The LSE Hawks football team fell on the road Tuesday night against the Moberly Spartans by a score of 26-20.
The Blue team, who dropped to 2-2 on the season, trailed Moberly 20-12 at the half but outscored the Spartans 8-6 in the second half.
LSE coach Jeff Francis said Moberly scored on a fourth and goal from the 1-yard line with a minute left to play in the fourth quarter. “Our squad played a very good game but in the end they executed two more plays than we did. I am very proud of our young men and they played great and have nothing to hang their heads about. As a coaching staff, we can look in the mirror and know that the boys gave it their best shot.”
Nick Zeitlow led all rushers for LSE with six carries for 27 yards. Kole Ficken finished the game with four carries for 11 yards while Wyatt Grizzle added one carry for 10 yards and Weston Fahrenbrink two carries for 6 yards.
Zeitlow also completed 5 of 14 passes for 106 yards and two touchdowns.
Gabe Kaiser was the leading receiver in the game for the Hawks with one catch for 60 yards and one touchdown while Kole Ficken added one catch for 30 yards, Weston Fahrenbrink with one catch for 8 yards and one touchdown and Giovanni Strickland with two catches for 8 yards.
On defense, KeAndre Anderson led the Hawks with four solo stops, three assisted tackles and two sacks.
Gabe Kaiser finished the game with one solo stop and four assisted tackles while Kole Ficken added three solo stops and one assisted tackles, Gabe Rumbaoa and Remington Hammers each with two solo stops and two assisted tackles, Makiah Waibel and Lucas Gerke with one solo stop and two assisted tackles each, Giovanni Strickland with two solo stops, Nick Zeitlow, Weston Fahrenbrink and Alex Byrne with two assisted tackles each, Dee Sharp with one solo stop and Adam Edler, Wyatt Grizzle, Ryan Witting, Hunter Edwards, Sam Wiser and Landon Ball with one assisted tackle apiece.
As for the White team, they won a hard-fought battle against Moberly by a score of 22-14.
“The White team had a great defensive stand at the end to secure the victory,” Francis said. “The boys had to dig in deep and played their hearts out to get the win.”
The Spartans led LSE 6-0 at the end of the first quarter. However, after the Hawks scored a touchdown and a two-point conversion to go up 8-6 at the half, the two teams came out in the third quarter with eight points each. Meanwhile, in the fourth quarter, the Hawks hit paydirt again to win by eight.
Jaylen Butner led the rushing attack for LSE with 10 carries for 46 yards and one extra point. Avery Reardon finished the game with two carries for 6 yards and one touchdown while Ben Eichelberger added two carries for 2 yards.

Butner was also the leading receiver in the game for LSE with six catches for 83 yards and two touchdowns while Gabe Fenton had one catch for 30 yards. Skyler Blumhorst, meanwhile, finished the game with one extra point.
On defense for the White team, Don Hammers had two solo stops and five assisted tackles.
Dakota Bishop finished the game with four solo stops and three assisted tackles while Joel Concannon added two solo stops and three assisted tackles, Christian Kosnopfal with one solo stop, two assisted tackles and one sack, Ben Horst with one solo stop and three assisted tackles, Gabe Fenton with three solo stops, Ethan Waibel with two assisted tackles, Avery Reardon with one solo stop and one assisted tackle, Skyler Blumhorst with two assisted tackles and one fumble recovery, Bryan Imhoff and Ben Eichelberger each with one solo stop and Luke Rehagen, Dennis Amie, Alan Swires, Koby Abel, Chad Northern, Derrel Hurt, Daniel Meyer and Tyler Weixeldorfer with one assisted tackle apiece.
