  • The Prairie Home Lady Panthers softball team couldn’t have asked for a better ending last night at home against the Otterville Lady Eagles.
While trailing 1-0 after 5 1/2 innings of play, the Lady Panthers rallied back with two runs in the bottom-half of the sixth to beat Otterville by a score of 2-1.
Prairie Home coach Glenda Scott said this was a great team effort by the players.
“This was the best game of the year,” Scott said. “We have won three out of our last four games and had just three errors last night. I’m proud of the way we played.”
Scott said although the Lady Panthers failed to score for the first-five innings, they had a chance to score in the first inning but couldn’t get runs across. Then, in the sixth, Scott said Kendra Stinson walked and advanced to third on a bunt single by Katlynn Watson. Stinson, Scott said, then came across on a pass ball while Makayla Zey hit a hard ground ball to deep second to sacrifice Watson home for the go-ahead run.
Zey also picked up the win on the mound for Prairie Home while Hannah Stone took the loss for Otterville. Zey pitched all seven innings and struck out 14 batters while giving up one run on two hits and three walks.
Scott said this was Zey’s best game of the season. “She threw hard and moved the ball and hit her spots,” Scott said. “I also thought this was the best game I have seen Hannah throw.”
Like Zey, Stone went the distance and struck out 14 batters while giving up two runs on four hits and one walk.
While out-hitting Otterville 4-2, Kendra Stinson went 2-for-2 with two singles. Katlynn Watson was 2-for-3 with two singles while Makayla Zey had a sacrifice in the sixth with one RBI.
Along with great pitching and timely hitting, Scott said the defense was also solid. “Kohlie Stock threw a runner out at second from center field in the sixth for the second out,” Scott said.
