Loss drops Pirates to 3-8 overall and 0-6 in the conference
The Boonville Pirates soccer team hit another snag last night at home against the Kirksville Tigers in NCMC action at the BHS Sports Complex.
While playing the Tigers to a scoreless tie in the first half, the Pirates had just two mistakes in the second half while allowing goals at the 49 and 72 minute mark to suffer a 2-0 loss.
Boonville Pirates soccer coach Tim Brown said unfortunately the Pirates just cannot seem to find the attacking formula.
The loss dropped Boonville to 3-8 overall and 0-6 in the North Central Missouri Conference.
As far as shots on goal and shot attempts, the Tigers also dominated Boonville in these categories for 80 minutes. Kirksville finished the match with 12 shots on goal and 19 shot attempts compared to only three shots on goal for Boonville and seven shot attempts.
Boonville junior goalie Nathan Green also had a busy night for the Pirates with 10 saves.
As for fouls in the match, Boonville had 13 compared to just 11 for Kirksville. The Tigers also had the only yellow card at the 67 minute mark.
Kirksville also won the JV match against Boonville by a score of 4-0.
The Tigers led Boonville 2-0 at the half on goals at the 2 and 15 minute mark and then scored two more goals in the second half at the 35 and 49 minute mark for the victory.
Brown said the JV Pirate defense did not have an answer for the JV Tigers' direct style of play.
Kirksville finished the match with 12 shots on goal and 20 shot attempts compared to no shots on goal for Boonville and just one shot attempt.
Junior goalie Brendan Twenter, meanwhile, had eight saves in the match.
As for fouls in the match, Boonville and Kirksville each had four.
The loss dropped Boonville's JV to 1-6-2 overall.
The Boonville Pirates soccer team will compete in the 9th annual Laker Shootout on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 28-29.
The Pirates will compete in the Gold pool along with Hannibal, Camdenton, Fatima and Crocker.
Boonville will play Ozark tonight at 6 p.m. Then, on Saturday, the Pirates will take on Crocker at 9 a.m. and Camdenton at 7 p.m.
