  • Considering the last time the two teams met at the Windsor gymnasium and played to a three-set thriller, it didn't come as a surprise that Boonville fell on the road last night against the Fulton Hornets by the scores of 25-21 and 25-21.
While the loss dropped Boonville to 8-4 overall and 4-2 in the NCMC, head coach Susie Stone said Fulton served more aces this match than the Lady Pirates and they had fewer missed serves and at the end of the first and second set.
"They were the ones with the momentum swing at the end," Stone said. "One of our plans was to eliminate the setter offense from Fulton because she is a strong offensive threat," Stone said. "We took her opportunities away but allowed her to score off of dumps or tips. However, her teammates came through from the back and outside pin."
In the first game of the match, Stone said Fulton also jumped out to a 5-1 lead before the Lady Pirates started to strike back. She said the girls clawed back into the game behind strong serving from Kristin Hoff that kept Fulton out of system.
"We played to multiple ties during this set after Fulton jumped ahead after back to back serving aces at 19-18," Stone said. "We battled back to go on top 20-19 but then we failed consistently to put together a series of strong rallies and allowed Fulton to tie and then go ahead for the win at the end of the match."
In the second set, Stone said the girls once again played to multiple ties during the first 16 points of the set with a tie at 21-21. She said Fulton then was able to connect on some strong attacks that blasted through some blocks.
"We hit the deep corners on some roll shots but failed to execute when we had opportunities," Stone said.
Kristin Hoff led the Lady Pirates with 29 digs along with nine service points with one ace and one kill on 6 of 8 attack attempts.
Bailey Pfeiffer had 18 digs, eight service points with one ace, seven kills on 17 of 18 attack attempts, four assists and two blocks.
Mariah Root had 18 digs and seven service points, while Taylor Fry added five blocks, four digs and two kills on 7 of 9 attack attempts, Kylie Hohensee with seven digs, seven service points and 2 of 2 on attack attempts, Raven Stone with four digs, four blocks, two assists and 2 of 2 on attack attempts, Zoe Root with eight digs, seven service points and six assists, Anna Terlep with three digs, one service point and 3 of 3 on attack attempts, Anna Davis with three digs and two kills on 10 of 13 attack attempts, Morgan Edwards with three blocks, one dig and one kill on 4 of 4 attack attempts and Sam Ivy with two blocks, one dig and one of one on attack attempts and Bridgett Fischer with two service points with one ace.
