The Boonville Lady Pirates tennis team dropped a 8-4 decision on the road last night against the Fulton Hornets.
While recording just two wins in both singles and doubles, head coach Stephanie Green said despite injuries and illness, the girls really played some great tennis.
"With everyone moving up in the lineup and playing with some new doubles partners, every one of our players stepped up, played hard and had really good attitudes about doing their job for the team," Green said.
Richerson played some of her best tennis and stayed ahead throughout the entire match. Stewart, with a still painful knee injury, kept her match within a game until the final 3, but was playing a fast paced game with a lot heavy and hard hitting the entire time. Gerlach overcame a 4 game deficit at the beginning of the match to go head finally by three games and managed to keep that pace and distance for the remainder of the set. Having to give up the number 6 doubles spot hurt us a bit in overall team score, but with illness, we just didn't have the personnel to fill it. We're still making good improvements individually and tonight was a good team experience as the girls came together to support each other and do their best. We're still a young team and as long as we're making progress, that's exactly what we want to see going into post season play."
