The Prairie Home softball team picked up the sweep last night at home by beating the Higbee Tigers in CCAA action by the scores of 19-1 and 19-0.
The Lady Panthers, 6-12 on the season, opened the first game against Higbee with nine runs in the first and then sent one run across in the second and nine again in the third for the victory.
Despite the win, head coach Glenda Scott said the girls were sluggish in the first inning and made two errors. “Higbee got their only hit of the night in the first inning,” Scott said. “We did a lot of stealing on the bases and I thought Makayla Zey had another good night on the mound.”
Freshman Makayla Zey picked up the win for the Lady Panthers by giving up one run on one hit and two walks while striking out three batters.
Kathrynn Watson went 2-for-3 with a single, triple and two RBIs while Jessie Kennedy added a single and one RBI, Josie Flood with one single and Kohlie Stock with one RBI.
In the second game, Prairie Home exploded for 11 runs in the first and then sent eight runs across in the second inning for the victory.
Zey again picked up the win on the mound for Prairie Home by striking out three batters in three innings.
Katlynn Watson went 2-for-2 with a single, home run and four RBIs while Josie Flood added two singles and three RBIs, Brooke Emmerich with one triple and one RBI, Ally Small with a RBI-single and Kendra Stinson with one single.
Scott said the Lady Panthers had good at bats in the second game. “We didn’t swing at bad pitches,” Scott said. “The subs played a lot and made good choices. We moved some of the players to different positions but it was good to win.”
