The New Franklin Lady Bulldogs softball team had another tough go last night on the road while losing to the Columbia Hickman Lady Kewpies by a score of 16-0.
The Lady Bulldogs, dropping to 14-9 on the season, surrendered four runs in the first and 12 again in the second to lose by the mercy rule against Hickman.
New Franklin coach Ross Dowell said the Lady Bulldogs had two starters out hurt and lost another the second or third play of the game. "We didn't hit the ball and gave them too many opportunities with five errors," Dowell said. "Hickman can really hit the ball and we had no answer for what they could do to us."
Hawkins picked up the win on the mound for Hickman while Megan Phillips took the loss for New Franklin. In three innings pitched, Hawkins struck out seven batters and gave up just one hit. Phillips, meanwhile, pitched two innings and surrendered 16 runs, eight earned, on 14 hits and one walk.
Kaitlin Dobson had the only hit in the game for New Franklin, being a single.
