The LSE Hawks Blue team raised its season record to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the NCMC by beating the Fulton Hornets Tuesday night at the BHS Sports Complex by a score of 26-16.
Although both teams closed out the first quarter scoreless, the Hawks came back with a touchdown and two-point conversion to lead Fulton 8-0 at the half. Meanwhile, in the third quarter, LSE hit paydirt twice to extend the lead over Fulton to 20-0. However, in the fourth quarter, the Hornets made a come back by outscoring LSE 16-6 to cut the lead to 10.
LSE coach Jeff Francis said the Hawks played a very physical Fulton team and had to earn every yard and point. "We played well and we are proud of the kids," Francis said.
Nick Zeitlow led the rushing attack for LSE with 11 carries for 141 yards and three touchdowns while Kole Ficken added 10 carries for 38 yards and one touchdown, Wyatt Grizzle with one carry for 7 yards and Gabe Kaiser with one carry for 3 yards.
Zeitlow also completed 4 of 5 passes for 17 yards.
Meanwhile, on the receiving end, Giovanni Stickland had two catches for 8 yards and a two-point conversion while Makiah Waibel added one catch for 6 yards and Kole Ficken with one carry for 3 yards.
As for the defense, Gabe Rumbaoa led the Hawks with five solo stops and three assisted tackles.
KeAndre Anderson finished the game with four solo stops and two assisted tackles while Hunter Edwards added three solo stops and two assisted tackles, Gabe Kaiser with two solo stops and three assisted tackles, Caleb Johnson with one solo stop and three assisted tackles, Kole Ficken with two solo stops, one assisted tackle and one sack, Giovanni Strickland and Sam Wiser each with one solo stop and two assisted tackles, Weston Fahrenbrink with three assisted tackles, Jaylen Butner, Nick Zeitlow, Ryan Witting, Ben Horst and Alex Byrne with two assisted tackles each, Makiah Waibel with one solo stop and one interception and Wyatt Grizzle, Christian Kosnopfal, Landon Bail and Lucas Gerke with one assisted tackle each.
As for the white team for the Hawks, they fell to Fulton 12-0.
While giving up a touchdown in the first-two quarters, Francis said once the Hawks made some adjustments they were able to shut Fulton down. "We made some improvements and will continue to strive for excellence," Francis said.
Ben Eichelberger had three carries for 6 yards to lead the Hawks while Don Hammers added one carry for 4 yards.
Seventh grade quarterback Avery Reardon, meanwhile, completed 3 of 7 passes for 24 yards.
Adam Edler was the leading receiver in the game with two catches for 16 yards while Don Hammers had one reception for 8 yards.
Meanwhile, on defense, Alex Breshears had five solo stops, two assisted tackles and one fumble recovery. Skyler Blumhorst finished the game with two solo stops, three assisted tackles and three sacks while Gabe Fenton added four solo stops and two assisted tackles, Don Hammers with two solo stops and three assisted tackles, Adam Edler with three solo stops and one assisted tackle, Avery Reardon with one solo stop and two assisted tackles, Ben Eichelberger, Koby Abel and Alan Swires and Chad Northern each with two assisted tackles, and Ethan Waibel, Joel Concannon, Dennis Amie, Derrel Hurt, Jacob Bailey, Bryan Imhoff, Daniel Meyer and Tyler Weixeldorfer with one assisted tackle each.
