JV team wins in three games 17-25, 25-19 and 26-24
The Boonville Lady Pirates volleyball team didn't take long to bounce back from the two-set loss Tuesday night on the road against the Hannibal Pirates.
Last night on the road against the Marshall Owls, the Lady Pirates returned to their old ways by beating the Owls in two straight games by the scores of 25-8 and 25-22.
While the win improved Boonville's record to 7-3 overall and 3-1 in the NCMC, head coach Susie Stone said in the first game the girls took control from the service line from the beginning of the match.
"We reeled off seven straight service points and kept marshall out of system and on their heels offensively," stated Stone. "We attacked aggressively and did a good job of transition offense. The only downfall was allowing Marshall to get some strong hits from the middle of the floor. We never trailed always in control."
Of course the second game was a different story as Marshall battled Boonville back and forth.
Stone said the girls started out with a good quick side out and then went up 4-0 before allowing Marshall to claw back in the game off of some timely hits and errors on their side.
"We cleaned up our play and executed better and were able to push through for the win," Stone said. "Marshall made us fight for the win in the second game, they were much scrappier in the second set."
In the match against Marshall, who dropped to 5-8-1 overall and 1-4 in the NCMC, junior Kristin Hoff had 29 digs along with two kills on 3 of 5 attack attempts.
Senior Bailey Pfeiffer finished the match with nine digs, nine kills on 14 of 15 attack attempts along with eight assists and one block. Mariah Root had 13 digs, followed by Zoe Root with eight assists and two digs, Anna Davis with six kills on 10 of 11 attack attempts with three digs and one block, Kylie Hohensee with seven digs, two assists and one of two attack attempts, Taylor Fry with three blocks, two digs and one kill on 3 of 3 attack attempts, Morgan Edwards with four blocks, one dig and one kill on 3 of 3 attack attempts, Raven Stone with two assists, two digs, one block and 3 of 3 on attack attempts, Sam Ivy with one dig and one kill on 1 of 1 attack attempt and Anna Terlep with two digs.
Boonville also won the JV match in three games 17-25, 25-19 and 26-24.
Boonville JV coach Carlei Wies said the girls started the first game off pretty rough. "We picked it up in the second game with good passes and aggressive hits," Wies said. "The third game was close but we played clean enough to pull it out."
Sophomore Daryl Fagan had 27 digs and 11 service points with two aces for the Lady Pirates.
Bridget Fischer finished the game with 19 assists, 17 digs, nine service points with five aces, seven kills and one block.
