Though today is the last weekday of the year Lion's Park Aquatic Center will be open, swimmers will still be able to access the facility for the next three weekends. Their normal weekend schedule will continue, with hours being from 1:00 - 8:00 p.m. The pool will close for the season on Sunday, September 2.
"As of August 15, our total attendance for the year has already exceeded last year's by 524," said Boonville Parks and Recreation Director, Gary Nauman.
2011 saw 27,175 people come through the gates at Lion's Park.
According to Nauman, a lazy river is still planned, though it may be years before ground is broken for it.
"This place is sized to accommodate future additions," Nauman had said.
Total expenses for the center for 2012, as of July 31, were $103,365. Total revenues stand at $107,593.
"Attendance has dropped since the end of July with school getting ready to start and families taking last minute vacations, but that's to be expected," said Nauman.
The pool employs 17 lifeguards and provides a total of 29 jobs for the Boonville area.
