A huge barbeque is taking place this weekend in Boonville. You should show up.
The Knights of Columbus Hall will host a barbeque for Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School on Sunday, August 19. The third annual event is expected to see an enormous local turnout.
"We've had between 900-1000 people for each of the past two years, and we hope to see at least that many on Sunday," said Barbeque chairperson, Peggy Armentrout.
The school recently completed their new multi-purpose facility, which features both a gymnasium and stage, among other amenities. The fund-raising, planning and logistics behind the complex were years in the making, according to Principal Alan Lammers.
Sunday's "Celebrating Achievement" theme will see live music from the River City Singers, carnival games, an inflatable bounce house and event t-shirts. Adult beverages will be available as well. Musicians and singers will include Jessie Rohrbach, Nancy Windsor, Arjan Hodges and Joe Gulino.
"Proceeds will go towards the school parking lot project. We hope to have it paved behind new gymnasium and our goal this year is to raise $50,000 to accomplish that," Armentrout said.
Terry Smith will be on hand to provide a meal of ribs, chicken, pulled pork, bratwurst, hotdogs, baked beans and cole slaw – seasoned with dressings from Augie's Sauce and Spice BBQ Co.
Doors are scheduled to open at 11:00 a.m. A full adult meal is priced at $10. Meals for children six years and older cost only $8 and those aged five and under can eat free of charge. Both a la carte and carry-outs are also additionally available. The evening will conclude at 6:00 p.m.
