The Boonville Pirates football team will have its first real taste of contact during the Versailles Football Jamboree on Friday, August 17 at the Versailles High School Football Complex starting at 7 p.m.
According to officials at Versailles, each team will play 12 offensive and 12 defensive plays against the other three schools in consecutive order and then the teams will switch. A coin toss preceeding each scrimmage will determine who will have possession of the ball first.
Downs and distance will be kept. If the offensive team does not get a first down on the first-three plays, the ball will be returned to the 40-yard line. Once a team gets inside the 20-yard line, they have four downs to obtain a first down. If a team scores, they will return to the 40-yard line to continue their set of plays. However if the defense forces a turnover, the offensive team will regain possession to the 40-yard line.
Penalties will be assessed just like a regular football game. A down that a penalty was called and accepted will not count as one of the 12 team plays for each round.
Teams participating in this year's Jamboree are: Boonville, Versailles, Clinton and Cole Camp.
The following schedule will be used for the Jamboree: (North End-Scoreboard) Versailles vs. Clinton, 7 p.m.; Cole Camp vs. Versailles, 7:30 p.m.; Versailles vs. Boonville, 8 p.m. (South End) Cole Camp vs. Boonville, 7 p.m.; Boonville vs. Clinton, 7:30 p.m.; Cole Camp vs. Clinton, 8 p.m.
Note: Versailles will warm up on the North end zone out to the 20-yard line. Clinton will warm up on the north end from the 20-yard line to the 50. Cole Camp will warm up on the south end from the 50 to the 20. Boonville, meanwhile, will warm up on the south end from the 20 to the end zone.
