  • The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes minor league baseball team is taking a day-to-day approach with outfielder Chuckie Jones.
Having last played on Sunday, July 8th, officials this morning for Salem-Keizer said they are being on the cautious side after Jones reported a slight twinge in his leg.
“It’s nothing major,” the official said. “We are just letting him rest his leg.”
In his last 10 games, Jones is hitting .216 with eight hits in 37 at-bats with three doubles, two home runs and six RBIs. He also has an on-base percentage of .341 and a slugging percentage of .459.
Also during that span, Jones has two multi-hit games while going 2-for-3 with a home run and one RBI back on July 2nd against Vancouver and 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI against Eugene back on July 8.
For the season, Jones is hitting .333 with runners in scoring position and .300 with runners on. The Boonville native is also hitting .259 for the month of July after a .212 stint in June.
Jones also likes turf opposed to grass. While hitting .429 on turf for the season, Jones is hitting only .208 on grass. Day games are also to Jones liking, as he is hitting .667 compared to .192 on night games.
