  • Although it was just practice games, the Boonville 15-year-old All-Stars picked up a sweep just the same against Chillicothe on Sunday at Twillman Field in Harley park, winning by the scores of 5-4 and 9-1.
    In the opening game against Chillicothe, the Boonville 15 All-Stars jumped out on top with one run in the bottom-half of the first when Kenan Johnson hit a one-out single and later stole home.
    Meanwhile, after Chillicothe answered with one run in the top-half of the second and two again in the third to go up 3-1, the Boonville 15 All-Stars came back and plated two in the bottom-half of the fifth on one walk, singles each by Austin Day, Jordan Copeland and Kenan Johnson and a RBI-single by Alec Viertel to tie the game at 3-all.
    Then, after a scoreless sixth, Chillicothe broke the tie with one run in the top-half of the seventh only to have Boonville rally back with two in the bottom-half of the inning on one error and back-to-back doubles by Keaton Barnes and Alec Viertel for the victory.
    Josh Judd picked up the complete-game victory for Boonville. In seven innings, Judd struck out six batters and gave up four runs on 13 hits and one walk. Austin Minnick, meanwhile, took the loss for Chillicothe by giving up two runs on two hits in two innings in relief for starting pitcher Wade Phillips.
    Despite being out-hit by Chillicothe 13-11, Alec Viertel had three hits with two singles, one double and three RBIs. Kenan Johnson and Jordan Copeland each had two singles while Keaton Barnes added a double and one RBI and Austin Henderson, Josh Judd and Austin Day each with one single.
    For Chillicothe, Brandon Murray went 3-for-4 with three singles while Shayler Keller, Dylan Clark and Derek Hussey added two singles each.
    In the second game, the Boonville 15 All-Stars took the lead for good by exploding for six runs in the second on two errors, singles each by Neil Sanders and Clayton Lang, RBI single by Josh Judd, two-RBI double by Austin Hulbert and a two-RBI single by Jordan Copeland.
    Meanwhile, after Chillicothe sent across one run in the top-half of the fifth, Boonville came back and added one in the bottom-half of the inning on singles each by Jordan Copeland and Alec Viertel and a RBI on a sacrifice by Josh Judd.
    Alec Viertel pitched the first-five innings to pick up the win on the mound for Boonville while Brandon Murray took the loss for Chillicothe.
    Viertel pitched the first-five innings and struck out three out three batters while giving up one run on one hit and four walks. Keaton Barnes then came in and pitched 1 2/3 innings and walked two while striking out one. Then, to finish the game, Jordan Copeland pitched 1/3 inning with no hits, no runs and no walks.
    Page 2 of 2 - Boonville also had 11 hits in the game, with Jordan Copeland going 2-for-3 with two singles and two RBIs. Neil Sanders also had two hits, both of which went for singles, while Keaton Barnes added a double and one RBI, Austin Hulbert and Josh Judd each with a single and two RBIs, Kenan Johnson, Clayton Lang, Keaton Vollrath and Alec Viertel each with one single and Quincy Banuet with one RBI.
    For Chillicothe, Shayler Keller went 1-for-2 with one single.
