To win the Senior Babe Ruth title, UMB?Bank knew what it had to do Tuesday night in doubleheader against Edward Jones.
Win both games or even split with Edward Jones and the Senior Babe Ruth title was theirs for the 2012 season. However if UMB?Bank somehow managed to lose both games, they would be tied for a share of the lead with Edward Jones.
As it turned out UMB Bank decided that winning both games would be easier, as they defeated Edward Jones by the scores of 7-1 and 7-5.
In the final-team standings, UMB Bank finished the season with a record of 7-1 overall. Edward Jones placed second at 3-5 while Alliant Bank finished third at 2-6.
In the first game of the doubleheader, UMB?Bank jumped out to stay against Edward Jones by pushing across two runs in the top-half of the first on two walks, a lead-off double by Mitchell Hackman and a RBI-single by Jacob Francis.
Of course UMB Bank didn’t stop there. While holding Edward Jones scoreless in its half of the first, UMB?Bank came back and plated another run in the top-half of the second on the RBI-triple by Hackman to go up 3-0. Then, after another scoreless inning by Edward Jones, UMB?Bank sent one run across in the top-half of the third when Jalen Poindexter led off with a single and scored on the RBI-double by Francis to make it 4-0.
Edward Jones didn’t go down without a fight, though. In the bottom-half of the third, Edward Jones finally got on the board with one run on back-to-back singles by Nathan Small and Addison Jobe.
Unfortunately for Edward Jones, they never got any closer in the ballgame as UMB?Bank came back and tacked on another run in the fourth on singles each by Andrew Tutin and Mitchell Hackman and a ground rule double for an RBI by Poindexter. Then, in the fifth, UMB Bank added yet another run when Jeremy Davis led off with a ground rule double and scored on the RBI-triple by John Reese.
Kyle VanderLinden picked up the win on the mound for UMB?Bank while Caleb Hein took the loss for Edward Jones. VanderLinden pitched all seven innings and struck out six batters while giving up one run on three hits and one walk. Hein, meanwhile, went the distance for Edward Jones and surrendered seven runs on 14 hits and three walks while striking out eight.
UMB Bank also out-hit Edward Jones 14-3, with Mitchell Hackman going 3-for-4 with a single, double and a triple.
Jeremy Davis was 2-for-4 with two doubles while John Reese had a single and a triple, Jalen Poindexter and Jacob Francis each with a single and a double, Kyle VanderLinden with one double and Tyler Spence and Andrew Tutin each with one single.

In the nightcap, Edward Jones took the early lead with two runs in the first on one walk, a single by Tanner Hulbert and RBI-singles each by Dylan Albertson and D.L. Green.
Meanwhile, after holding UMB Bank scoreless in its half of the first, Edward Jones came back and added one run in the second on four walks and one again in the third when D.L. Green led off with a double and scored on the RBI-single by Aaron Waibel to make it 4-0.
Needless to say the game was far from being over. In the bottom-half of the third, UMB Bank sent one run across on the two-out solo home run by Jalen Poindexter to cut the lead to three at 4-1.
Then, after both teams failed to score in the fourth inning, UMB?Bank rallied back again with six runs in the fifth on one walk, two errors, a RBI-double by Kenny Edwards, a two-RBI double by Jeremy Davis and a RBI-double by Jacob Francis to go up for the first time in the game by a score of 7-4.
Edward Jones then plated one run in the sixth on the RBI-single by Dylan Albertson to end the scoring.
John Reese was the pitcher of record in the game for UMB Bank while Addison Jobe took the loss for Edward Jones.
Jared Oser started the game for UMB Bank and pitched the first-four innings, giving up four runs on four hits and five walks while striking out four. John Reese then came in and pitched one inning in relief and allowed one run on one hit while striking out one. Then, to finish the game, Jalen Poindexter pitched two innings and issued one run on one hit while striking out one.
For Edward Jones, Jobe pitched the first-five innings and yielded seven runs on five hits and one walk while striking out six. D.L. Green then came in and pitched one inning in relief and struck out one batter.
Jacob Francis went 2-for-3 in the game for UMB?Bank with a single and a double. Jalen Poindexter was 1-for-3 with a home run while Jeremy Davis doubled and Tyler Spence singled.
For Edward Jones, Dylan Albertson went 2-for-4 with two singles. Caleb Hein doubled while D.L. Green, Dallas Franklin and Aaron Waibel each singled.
