KWRT had everything going its way for 1 1/2 innings Friday night against A&W in Junior Babe Ruth action at Twillman Field in Harley park.
While leading 9-0 after 1 1/2, KWRT took it a step further while leading 13-9 after five. But in this case, KWRT may have relaxed just a little too much as A&W rallied back with five runs in the bottom-half of the sixth for a 14-13 victory.
As for the nightcap, Medical Arts had little trouble with Kentucky Fried Chicken while leading from start to finish for a 14-1 victory.
A&W, improving to 6-7 on the season, began its rally with four runs in the bottom-half of the second to cut KWRT’s lead to five at 9-4. Meanwhile, after a scoreless third, A&W matched KWRT with two runs to make it 11-6. Then, after KWRT plated two runs in the top-half of the fifth, A&W rallied back again with three runs in the bottom-half of the inning to cut the lead to four at 13-9.
Of course the game was far from being over. After another scoreless inning in the sixth by KWRT, A&W started its comeback in the bottom-half of the inning when Jared Bledsoe led off with a single and then scored on the two-RBI double by Jady Reese. Then, after two more runs crossed the plate, Neil Sanders hit a walk-off double to score both Riley Lang and Reese for the victory.
Riley Lang also picked up the win on the mound for A&W while Ethan Sander took the loss for KWRT, who dropped to 10-2 overall. Quincy Banuet started the game for A&W and gave up nine runs on eight hits and two walks in two innings. Lang then came in and pitched four innings in relief and allowed four runs on six hits and one walk while striking out one batter.
For KWRT, Austin Hulbert started the game and pitched 5 1/3 innings and surrendered nine runs on eight hits and eight walks while striking out five. Ethan Sander then came in and pitched 2/3 inning in relief and issued five runs on two hits and four walks while striking out two.
Riley Lang went 3-for-5 with one single and two doubles while Neil Sanders and Jady Reese added a single and a double each and Quincy Banuet, Braydon Johnson and Jared Bledsoe each with one single.
For KWRT, who actually out-hit A&W 14-10, Isaac Lorenz and Kenan Johnson each had three singles while Dalton Vaughn added a single and a double, Austin Hulbert with two singles, Ethan Sander with one double and Brady Gholson, Zane Price and Tret Loesing with one single apiece.
In the nightcap, Medical Arts opened the game with five runs in the first and then sent four runs across in the third, one again in the fourth and four in the fifth for the victory.

Jordan Copeland picked up the win on the mound for Medical Arts, who improved to 10-3 overall, while Tavious Brazil took the loss for KFC, who dropped to 3-10. In five innings, Copeland struck out 10 batters and gave up one run on one hit and two walks. Brazil, meanwhile, pitched all five innings for KFC and surrendered 14 runs on 10 hits and four walks while striking out two.
Medical Arts also out-hit KFC 10-1, with Josh Judd going 2-for-4 with a single and a double. Evan Franklin and Austin Henderson each had two singles while Andrew Garrison doubled and Jordan Copeland, Eric VanderLinden and Tommy Kopine each singled.
For KFC, Morgan Browning went 1-for-3 with one single.
