  • West All-Stars blank East All-Stars 10-0 in Midget League All-Star Game

  • The annual Midget League All-Star Game had plenty of fireworks Saturday at the Cal Ripken field, with the West squad winning 10-0 over the East squad.

  • The annual Midget League All-Star Game had plenty of fireworks Saturday at the Cal Ripken field, with the West squad winning 10-0 over the East squad.
    The West, which was made up of players from C&R Market, A. Baker Floral and Boone County National Bank, had a great start to the game by exploding for five runs in the first on six walks, a double by Drew Sanders and a three-RBI triple by Memphis Waibel.
    Meanwhile, after holding the East scoreless in its half of the first, the West came back and tacked on another run in the second on two walks and a RBI ground out by Waibel to extend the lead to 6-0. Then, after another scoreless inning in the second by the East, the West sent across four more runs in the top-half of the third on six walks, a double by Sanders and a RBI on a bases-loaded walk to Waibel to make it 10-0.
    Drew Sanders picked up the win on the mound for the West while Treveon Coleman took the loss for the East.
    Sanders pitched the first-two innings and struck out six batters. Memphis Waibel then came in and pitched two innings in relief and surrendered one hit and one walk while striking out six. Then, to finish the game, Xavier Reed pitched one inning and walked one while striking out one batter.
    For the East, Coleman pitched the first inning and gave up five runs on two hits and six walks while striking out one. Cameron Ray then came in and pitched one inning in relief and surrendered one run on three walks while striking out two. Meanwhile, after Chandler Stonecipher pitched one inning and issued four runs on one hit and six walks while striking out two batters, Darian Williams came in and pitched one inning and walked one while striking out two. Aiden Battreall then came in and pitched one inning and yielded one hit and one walk while striking out three batters.
    The West also out-hit the East 3-1, with Drew Sanders going 2-for-5 with two doubles. Memphis Waibel was 1-for-3 with a triple and five RBIs.
    The East was led by Cameron Ray with one single.
    Members of the West squad were: Drew Sanders, Xavier Reed, Daylon Shelton, Memphis Waibel, Peyton Hahn, Isaac Reed, Zach Brown and Cameron Poulsen.
    Members of the East squad were: Bret Thompson, Treveon Coleman, DeAndre Wesolak, Chandler Stonecipher, Cameron Ray, Darian Williams, Joseph Walters, Aiden Battreall and Lane Keeran.
