  • Rice powers Einspahr Construction past CARSTAR in Cal Ripken Minor

  • Kayle Rice went 3-for-3 with two singles, one double and four RBIs, and teammate Heath Danner and Gabriel Bullard added one single each as Einspahr Construction defeated CARSTAR in Cal Ripken Minor Friday night by a score of 11-7.
    Meanwhile, in the nightcap, Huebert Fiberboard raised its season record to 14-3 by turning back Excel 15-3.
    Einspahr Construction, improving to 8-9 on the season, led CARSTAR 4-2 after one. Then, after holding CARSTAR scoreless in its half of the second, Einspahr Construction came back and plated two runs in the bottom-half of the inning to go up 6-2. Meanwhile, in the third, CARSTAR rallied back with a 2-1 scoring edge to cut the lead to three at 7-4.  CARSTAR then made things really exciting by pushing across three more runs in the top-half of the fourth to tie the game at 7-all. However, in the bottom-half of the fourth, Einspahr Construction came back and sent four runs across for the victory.
    Brock Nowlin picked up the win on the mound for Einspahr Construction while Dawson Barnthouse took the loss for CARSTAR, who dropped to 9-8 overall.
    Andrew Wiser started the game for Einspahr Construction and pitched the first-two innings, giving up two runs on three hits while striking out two. Nowlin then came in and pitched one inning in relief and allowed two runs on four hits while striking out one. Meanwhile, after Gabriel Bullard pitched 2/3 inning and issued three runs on one hit and three walks while striking out two batters, Nowlin re-entered as a pitcher and threw 1/3 inning and yielded one hit while striking out one.
    For CARSTAR, Nathaniel Krebs pitched 1/3 inning and gave up four runs on one hit and five walks while striking out one. Peyton Keeran then came in and pitched 2 2/3 innings in relief and allowed seven runs on two hits and three walks while striking out one. Then, to finish the game, Barnthouse pitched one inning and issued two hits and one walk while striking out one batter.
    Colten Scott went 3-for-3 in the game for CARSTAR with three singles and one RBI. Nathaniel Krebs was 2-for-2 with a single and a triple while Ethan Walker added two singles and Peyton Keeran with one single.
    In the nightcap, Hubert Fiberboard opened the game with one run in each of the first and second innings of play. Meanwhile, after both teams failed to score in the third inning, Huebert Fiberboard came back and broke the game wide open by exploding for 13 runs to make it 15-0. Excel then came back and avoided the shutout with three runs in the bottom-half of the fourth.
    Josh Chrisman picked up the win on the mound for Huebert Fiberboard while Tyson Fahrenbrink took the loss for Excel, who dropped to 1-16 overall.
    Page 2 of 2 - Chrisman pitched the first-three innings and struck out four batters while giving up just one hit and one walk. Bryce Harris then came in and pitched 2/3 inning in relief and allowed three runs on one hit and five walks while striking out one batter. Then, to finish the game, Lane West pitched 1/3 inning and struck out one batter.
    For Excel, Fahrenbrink pitched three-plus innings and gave up three runs on three hits and six walks while striking out four. Harper Stock then came in and pitched 1/3 inning and issued six runs on one hit and three walks. Meanwhile, after Brady Stock pitched part of the fourth and walked six, Carson Bail came in and pitched 2/3 inning and yielded one hit and two walks while striking out one.
    Huebert Fiberboard also out-hit Excel 5-2, with Reece Lang going 3-for-4 with one singles, two doubles and four RBIs. Lane West had one single and two RBIs while John Jenkins added one single.
    For Excel, Tyson Fahrenbrink and Carson Bail each had one single.
