  • After winning the first game of a doubleheader Saturday against Kirksville by a score of 2-1, Boonville’s JV traveling team just wanted to survive the second game with hopes of coming away with the sweep.

  • After winning the first game of a doubleheader Saturday against Kirksville by a score of 2-1, Boonville’s JV traveling team just wanted to survive the second game with hopes of coming away with the sweep.
    Unfortunately for Boonville, they never got a chance as Kirksville exploded for 13 runs in the final-two innings for a 17-3 victory and a split.
    After playing to a 0-0 tie for the first-three innings in Game 1, Boonville came back and plated two runs in the bottom-half of the fourth on the RBI-double by Alec Viertel and the RBI-single by Jady Reese to go up 2-0. Meanwhile, after both teams failed to score in the fifth and sixth innings of play, Kirksville came back and plated one run in the seventh to cut the lead to one.
    Josh Judd picked up the complete-game victory for Boonville by striking out seven batters and giving up one run on four hits and six walks.
    Judd also had two singles in the game for Boonville while Alec Viertel finished the game with a RBI-double, Jady Reese with a RBI-single and Bryce Fuemmeler, Austin Henderson, Austin Hulbert and Ethan Sander with one single each.
    For Kirksville, Hatfield, Farnsworth, Songer and Easley each had one single.
    Boonville also led Kirksville 2-1 after the first in Game 2 before giving up three runs in the second, eight again in the sixth and five in the seventh to suffer the loss.
    Alec Viertel took the loss on the mound for Boonville by giving up four runs on nine hits and three walks while striking out three. Keaton Barnes then came in and pitched part of the sixth and allowed two runs on one hit and thee walks. Meanwhile, after Conner Pond pitched 1 2/3 innings and issued nine runs on seven hits and two walks, Evan Franklin came in and pitched 1/3 inning and surrendered just one hit.
    Jon Gerke went 3-for-4 in the game for Boonville with three singles and one RBI. Dalton Bealmer had a single, double and one RBI while Evan Franklin added two singles and one RBI and Alec Viertel, Garrett Gamel and Conner Pond each with one single.
    For Kirksville, Nate Farnsworth and Triston Songer each had three singles.
