Salem-Keiser Volcanoes player Chuckie Jones appears to have found his swing after a brief stint in extended spring training.
After starting the season with the Augusta Green Jackets in Augusta, Georgia, Jones played in 23 games and collected eight hits in 86 at-bats with three doubles, one home run and seven RBIs for an average of .093. He also struck out 44 times and walked only five times.
Meanwhile, after a brief stay at extended spring training, Jones was sent back to the Salem-Keiser Volcanoes in the Class A Short Season in the Northwest League.
While appearing in 12 games for Salem-Keiser, Jones is currently hitting .238 with 10 hits in 42 at-bats with two doubles, one home run and 10 RBIs. He has also walked 12 times while striking out only nine times for an on-base percentage of .397 and a slugging percentage of .357.
Last night in a 6-4 loss against the Everett AquaSox, Jones went 1-for-1 with one RBI.
In his last 10 games with the Volcanoes, Jones is hitting .257 with nine hits in 35 at-bats with two doubles, one home run and eight RBIs for an on-base percentage of .383 and a slugging percentage of .400. He has also struck out nine times and walked eight times.
Jones also has multiple hit games in four out of his last 10 games for the Volcanoes, going 2-for-5 and 2-for-3 back on June 18 and 19 against the Boise Hawks, and 2-for-3 and 2-for-5 against the Yakima Bears on June 21 and 23.
Salem-Keiser is currently in fourth place with a record of 6-8 in the Northwest League West Division.
The Salem-Keiser Volcanoes will host Everett AquaSox for two games tonight and Saturday starting at 7:05 p.m.
