  • A graduate of Columbia's Hickman High School in 1994, John A. Wright has announced his candidacy for Missouri State Representative in the newly-formed 47th House District. Parts of Boone, Cooper and Howard counties will be included in any potential constituency.
Wright, a Democrat, attended Yale University, where he earned degrees in both economics and law. Following undergraduate work prior to enrolling in law school, he worked in the Missouri Governor's and State Treasurer's Offices in Jefferson City.
Wright is scheduled to be a visiting scholar at the University of Missouri Business School this fall. Previously, he founded a successful investment partnership. Additionally, the hopeful politician founded The Rollins Reading Company, a non-profit group that assists in the development and funding of programs that promote reading education in central Missouri. He is also a member of the Advisory Board of Jumpstart, an early childhood literacy program that has received national attention.
“In the knowledge economy, our greatest assets are the skills and creativity of our work force. Great schools create jobs today and the job-creators of tomorrow,” he said.
Education, according to Wright's campaign, will be a key area of focus for their venture.
Citing the revival of Boonville's Frederick Hotel, Wright also highlights tourism and recreation as important avenues of economic growth throughout the rural parts of his hopeful future district.
