  • Class Act wins title in Babe Ruth 14U softball despite losing twice to FFR

  • Class Act had the best of both worlds last night in the season finale in Babe Ruth 14U softball at Rolling Hills park.
    By beating Nordyne 16-7 in the first game, Class Act also picked up the title   even though they had one game left in the nightcap against Fuemmeler Furniture Refinishings.
    While splitting games during the regular season, FFR picked up the rubber game of the series by beating Class Act by a score of 6-4.
    Class Act finished the season at 11-2 overall while FFR closed out the 2012 campaign at 9-3.
    In the first game, Nordyne jumped out on top with three runs in the first only to have Class Act rally back with four runs in the bottom-half of the inning to go up 4-3.
    Class Act never trailed after that while plating six runs in the bottom-half of the second to make it 10-3. Then, after Nordyne sent one run across in the top-half of the third, Class Act came back and added three runs in the bottom-half of the inning to extend the lead to 13-6.
    Nordyne also tacked on one in the fourth while Class Act sent three runs across in the bottom-half of the inning for the victory.
    Makayla Zey picked up the win on the mound for Class Act while Miranda Northern took the loss for Nordyne, who closed out the season at 4-7.
    Alexis Muri started the game and pitched part of the first, giving up three runs on one hit and one walk. Zey then came in and pitched 2 2/3 innings in relief and allowed two runs on five hits while striking out four. Then, to finish the game, Alli Muri pitched 1 1/3 innings and issued one run on two hits and two walks.
    For Nordyne, Northern pitched the first-four innings and surrendered 16 runs on 11 hits and four walks while striking out five.
    Class Act also out-hit Nordyne 11-8, with Mackenzie Strother collecting two singles, one triple and two RBIs. Darian Wolfe had one single, two doubles and one RBI while Alli Muri added one single, one double and three RBIs, Mickayla Strother with two singles and one RBI and Emily Scheperle with one single and one RBI.
    For Nordyne, Leigha Vollmer had  two singles and one RBI while Kishonda Jones added two singles, Miranda Northern with one home run and four RBIs, Courtney Timm with a triple and one RBI, Kyla Johnson with one triple and Taylor Fisher with one single and one RBI.
    In the nightcap, Class Act jumped out with three runs in the top-half of the first only to have FFR rally back with one in the bottom-half of the fourth to cut the lead to two at 3-1. Meanwhile, after both teams put up one run in the fifth, FFR came back and scored four more runs in the sixth for the victory.
    Page 2 of 2 - Kiley Barnes picked up the win on the mound for FFR, while Makayla Zey took the loss for Class Act. Barnes pitched all six innings and struck out eight batters while giving up four runs on 11 hits and two walks. Zey, meanwhile, pitched all six innings and surrendered six runs on five hits and three walks while striking out three.
    Barnes also led the hitting attack in the game for FFR with a single, double and three RBIs. Madolyn Stodgel finished the game with a RBI-single while Hannah Fuemmeler and Addison Quinlan added one single each and Hannah Loesing and Ella Reisinger with one RBI apiece.
    For Class Act, Mickayla Strother had a single, double, triple and one RBI. Mackenzie Strother, meanwhile, finished the game with three singles and one RBI while Jordan Oerly added two singles, Alli Muri with one triple and one RBI and Alexis Muri, Darian Wolfe, Makayla Zey and Emily Scheperle each with one single.
