  • Edward Jones expected the unexpected last night in a doubleheader against Alliant Bank in Senior Babe Ruth action at Twillman Field in Harley park.
Having last played back on Tuesday, June 5, head coach Eric Rhorer didn’t know what to expect from his players or the pitchers for that matter. While a six-run fourth inning took care of Game 1 as Edward Jones prevailed 9-6, the second game turned into a slugfest as Alliant Bank took only five innings to beat Edward Jones 10-0 for the split.
In Game 1, Alliant Bank jumped out on top with one run in the top-half of the first when Kelsey Callaway led off with a double and later stole home.
However in the same inning, Edward Jones rallied back with three runs when Tanner Hulbert led off with a double and scored on an Alliant Bank error. Dylan Albertson then singled to score Caleb Hein to make it 2-1. Meanwhile, after Jeffrey Jackson reached on an error, D.L. Green doubled to score Jackson.
Of course the game got really interesting after that as Alliant Bank sent four more runs across in the third when Callaway reached on an error and later stole home. Wes Davis also singled in the inning and scored on the RBI-double by Zach Nixon. Then, after Chase Snapp received a walk, John Watson came back with a RBI-single to give Alliant Bank a 5-3 lead.
Alliant Bank came back and tacked on another run in the fourth on a one-out walk and a RBI-double by Wes Davis to extend the lead to 6-3.
However after failing to score in the second and third innings, Edward Jones rallied back with six runs in the bottom-half of the fourth when D.L. Green and Addison Jobe hit back-to-back singles and Aaron Waibel walked to load the bases. Things only got worse after that as Nathan Small picked up a walk, followed by a fielder’s choice and three Alliant Bank errors.
That one inning proved to be the difference as Alliant Bank put up goose eggs for the rest of the game to suffer the loss.
Caleb Hein picked up the win on the mound for Edward Jones while Landon Ball took the loss for Alliant Bank.
Hein pitched all seven innings and gave up six runs on seven hits and seven walks while striking out seven. Ball, meanwhile, pitched 3 1/3 innings and allowed six runs on five hits and three walks while striking out three. Wes Davis then came in and pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief and surrendered three runs on one hit while striking out three. Then, to finish the game, Zach Nixon pitched one inning and struck out one batter.
Dylan Albertson led the hitting attack in the game for Edward Jones with a single, double and three RBIs.

For Alliant Bank, who out-hit Edward Jones 7-6, Kelsey Callaway had two doubles while Wes Davis had a single, double and one RBI, Zach Nixon with a RBI-double, John Watson with a two-RBI single and Landon Ball with one single.
In the nightcap, Alliant Bank led from the first inning on by pushing across three runs in the bottom-half of the first on three walks, a hit batter and a triple by Kelsey Callaway to go up 3-0.
Meanwhile, after holding Edward Jones scoreless in the first-three innings, Alliant Bank came back and plated three more runs in the bottom-half of the third on back-to-back doubles by Zach Nixon and Grant Davis and a three-run home run Wes Davis to extend the lead to 6-0.
Edward Jones never recovered after that while giving up four more runs in the fifth on one walk, one error and three straight doubles by Wes Davis, Chase Snapp and John Watson to lose by the mercy rule.
Zach Nixon pitched all five innings for Alliant Bank and struck out four batters while giving up one hit and two walks.
D.L. Green, meanwhile, took the loss for Edward Jones by giving up six runs on four hits and four walks while striking out four batters in 2 2/3 innings. Dylan Albertson then came in and pitched 2 1/3 innings in relief and issued four runs on five hits and one walk while striking out two.
Alliant Bank also out-hit Edward Jones 9-1, with Wes Davis adding a double, home run and four RBIs.
Kelsey Callaway finished the game with a double and a triple while Chase Snapp had a double and three RBIs, Zach Nixon, John Watson and Grant Davis each with one double and Donovan Sturguess with one single.
