  • Donna W. Maupin was the daughter of Albert Villinger Wright and Helen Standartn.  She was born in Independence, Missouri on May 19, 1926.  She died on October 20, 2011 from complications related to Alzheimer’s Disease.
Mrs. Maupin graduated from Independence High School and went on to attend and graduate from Central Methodist College in Fayette, Missouri.  She majored in Biology and Art.  She was the first person in her family to earn a Bachelor’s Degree.
During World War II, she served on the home front working in a defense plant.  While attending Central Methodist College she met George Worth Maupin who had recently returned from the war to complete his education.  They were married on August 11, 1946.  George preceded her in death in April 2008 after 62 years of marriage.
Together, they had three sons, Michael Wright Maupin, Gordon Todd Maupin and Alan Rodger Maupin.  While her sons were young, Donna worked as a full-time mother and homemaker.  George’s job required a great deal of travel and she ran the household most of the time.  When her children entered high school, she returned to college at the University of Omaha in Nebraska to take additional coursework and earn a Masters Degree in Education.  In Omaha, she worked as a traveling art teacher visiting a wide range of schools.
When the family was transferred to the St. Louis area in 1966, she took a job teaching junior high art in the Parkway School District in Chesterfield, Missouri.  She ultimately retired from teaching to enjoy retirement years in Warsaw, Missouri, Gainesville, Florida, Columbia, Missouri and eventually John Knox Village in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.  Following her husband’s death, she transferred to Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Survivors include a brother, Albert Rodger Wright; three sons, Michael Wright Maupin on Northville, Michigan, Gordon Todd Maupin of Orrville, Ohio and Alan Rodger Maupin of Harlingen, Texas; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services for family and friends will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of donor’s choice in care of Carr-Yager Funeral Home, P.O. Box 210, Fayette, MO 65248.
