  • Lydia Serck, 100, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly at her home on Friday, June 15, 2012, two weeks prior to her 101st birthday.
     
    Visitation for Lydia will be held at Davis Funeral Chapel on Monday evening June 18th from 5:30 – 8:00. Funeral services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Lone Elm at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, June 19th with Rev. Paul Weisenborn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
     
    Lydia Serck was born in Hampton, NE June 30th, 1911, the daughter of Jacob and Louise (Werth) Wall. Lydia was baptized into God’s family on July 23, 1922 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hampton , NE and was confirmed in faith on May 24, 1925 in Hampton . She graduated from Hampton High School in 1929 and attended college at York, Nebraska. She taught in one-room rural schools for many years. Lydia was married to Joseph Serck, June 2, 1935 at Zion Lutheran in Hampton . They lived on a ranch in Chambers, NE until August of 1948 when they moved to Missouri . Lydia was instrumental in the operation of Serck Hardware store in Bunceton for many years. Lydia was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lone Elm. She was a member of Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and Ladies Aid. She served on various committees of the P.T.A. at Bunceton School where she was a substitute teacher for many years. She was also active in the Bunceton Lions Club, as well as a charter member of the Bunceton Garden Club for fifty years. Those who came to know Lydia will remember her love and devotion for her family and her kindness and to put others before herself. She was an avid Mizzou sports fan. One of her highlights was when she attended a Mizzou basketball game at the age of 100 years and received recognition by the coaches, players, media and the governor.
     
    Mrs. Serck was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joseph, three brothers, three sisters, two daughters-in-law and two sons-in-law. She is survived by three children, Duane Serck of Tucson, AZ, Ramona (Wayne) Simmons and Stanley (Debra) Serck of Boonville, MO., as well as her grandchildren; Patrick Green, Christine Carmichael (Tim) of Boonville, Dr. Steve Green (Carrie) of Lenexa, KS, Duane II (Valerie) Serck of Pekin, IL, Brian Todd (Abby) Serck, Arlington, TX, Christa (Jeff) Wilmsmeyer of New Franklin, MO and Seth (Liz) Bailey of Sweet Springs, MO. She will also be remembered by her sixteen great-grandchildren.
