Kathryn McCloskey Houlihan, a native of St. Louis, died Monday, May 28, 2012. She was 92. Kathryn was born on March 14, 1920. “Mack” as she was known to many, was the loving wife of Joseph P. Houlihan Jr. who died in 2003 after nearly 60 years of marriage. After their retirement in 1979 they resided in Boonville, Missouri until returning to Wildwood in 2003.
Kathryn had a large and vibrant family including nine children, Kathleen (Tom) Mooney, Joseph P. Houlihan III, Charlie (Kathy) Houlihan, Julie Ford, Daniel (Tina) Houlihan, Sr., the late Francis Houlihan, Ruth Elizabeth (Rob) Seabaugh, Maggie Houlihan (John Diller) and Eileen (Marvin) Seward. She was Grandma to 17 grandchildren and Grandma Mother to her 15 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her only brother, Charles “Bud” McCloskey, her son, Francis, son-in-law Tom Ford, and granddaughter, Katie Rose Houlihan.
Kathryn was a 1938 graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy, after which she attended Washington University. She was involved in many different organizations, including The Tuesday Contemporary Club, Community Betterment and the Girl Scouts as a troop leader. Kathryn loved the outdoors participating in a variety of sports including swimming, bowling, archery, fishing, hunting, horseback riding; and, as an avid traveler enjoyed many trips domestically and abroad, with a particular fondness for being on the water.
Kathryn was the epitome of grace and dignity. Her warm, beautiful smile and sparkling blue eyes were a reflection of her graciousness, love and generosity which she shared freely.
Funeral from the Schrader Funeral Home, 14960 Manchester Road at Holloway, Ballwin, Friday, 9:15 a.m. to St. Alban Roe Catholic Church, Wildwood, for 10 a.m. Mass. Interment St. Monica Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Houlihan's name may be made to St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf, 1809 Clarkson Road, Chesterfield, MO 63017.
